Media - Elementary

The Media Center helps to prepare students to become active participants in the world around them.  Students will explore design thinking, be encouraged to ideate, develop metacognitive awareness, and become active problem solvers.  They will become fluent in the 21st century skills of collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and creativity.  Students will also be exposed to a variety of quality literature that will inspire them to become lifelong readers.

The objective of the elementary media center program is to expose the students to the design thinking process and the skills necessary to complete the stages in the design process. Twenty-first century skills such as collaboration and teamwork, creativity and imagination, critical thinking and problem solving will be woven into the various units to help students develop these important skills throughout the school year.

Units will be created with the intention of developing spiraling skills that are built upon as students advance through the grade levels.  There will be a cohesiveness that will tie the school together as a community, while continuously increasing the students’ skill level.  The goal of each unit will be the introduction and refinement of skills and not towards the creation of projects.  Students will be given multiple opportunities to practice the skills in a variety of activities that challenge each student at a developmentally appropriate level.

Students will take an active role in their learning. Interactive methods of instruction will be implemented to provide the opportunity for students to sharpen their physical, cognitive, and social learning experiences.
