College is expensive and scholarships can help ease the financial burden! The main advantage of scholarships is that this money doesn’t need to be paid back. Students are encouraged to check the Scholarship List in their Naviance account regularly because the School Counseling Department posts new scholarship information there. At the top of the Naviance Home page, click on “Colleges,” select Scholarship List underneath Scholarships & Money, and click on Local & Regional Scholarships. Students can also update their profile and scholarship filters to be matched with national scholarships on the Scholarship Search.

Everyone is encouraged to seek out scholarships on their own. Below are several scholarship databases to help you find opportunities that match a student's skills, academics, and needs:

It is not possible for JCHS to review or vet all of these sites for accuracy or legitimacy, so do your research! Many scholarship sites require you to create a profile and then will generate scholarship matches. Be wary of sites that ask for too much personal information or an application fee; applying for a legitimate scholarship should not cost you money. Odds of being selected for a scholarship are affected by the number of applicants, the effort that is put into the application, and whether the scholarship is nationally, state, or locally based.

Multiple local scholarships will be made available to the students in the spring, so keep watching for the Bulletins.
