WEST CALDWELL— The Borough of Caldwell and the Township of West Caldwell recently received grants of $150,000 each that will be used to renovate the football field at Essex Valley School (EVS), located at One Henderson Drive, West Caldwell.
Essex Valley School is a private, not-for-profit school that offers therapeutic services and professional development to over 40 school districts from Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Middlesex, Morris, Passaic and Union counties.
The EVS football field is not only used by EVS students but according to Mayor Joseph Tempesta, Jr., the field is also used by community members and Caldwell/West Caldwell schools including James Caldwell High School.
Therefore, according to Tempesta, this renovation will be beneficial for many children and community members.
Both grants were awarded by the Essex County Open Space Trust Fund 2014 Local Aid Program. Because Caldwell and West Caldwell have a joint recreation department, they are able to combine the funds to total $300,000 and help the school renovate the football field by installing a new turf. In addition to the $300,000 grant, the school received $50,000 from the USA Football Grant.
The total cost of renovation will be approximately $900,000 and Caldwell and West Caldwell will fund the entire project.
Along with the installation of a new turf, Tempesta said there is a possibility for more fields to be added in which “a new generation of kids may enjoy.”
Renovation will begin shortly after the 2014 football season and should be completed by the spring of 2015.
