THE CALDWELLS — In another step along the way to becoming a consistently competitive club, the Mount Saint Dominic Academy lacrosse team has gained its highest seed ever for county competition with the sixth seed in the upcoming Essex County Tournament.

The full bracket features perennial power West Essex (6-3) in the top slot, followed by 6-4 Glen Ridge in the second slot, unbeaten James Caldwell High (10-0) in the third position, the best seed ever for the Lady Chiefs; No. 4 Montclair High (7-2), No. 5 Columbia (7-2), sixth-slotted MSDA (6-3), seventh-spotted Verona (6-2), No. 8 Montclair Kimberley Academy (3-7) and No. 9 Livingston (5-4), while Millburn and Newark Academy did not enter this year.

In the only outbracket game this time around, MKA edged Livingston, 13-11, on Friday, April 19, to earn a county quarterfinal clash against West Essex at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 27.

In the other three quarterfinals, Glen Ridge will host Verona at 10 a.m., Montclair High will host Columbia at 11 a.m. and Caldwell will host the Mount at 11 a.m.

Saturday’s battle between MSDA and JCHS will be the second in four days between the Lady Lions and the Lady Chiefs, who were scheduled to face each other in a Super Essex Conference clash yesterday afternoon, Wednesday, April 24, at Bonnel Field.
