PETITIONS NOMINATING CANDIDATES FOR BOARD OF EDUCATION MEMBERSHIP
Petition forms can be found at the bottom of this page or obtained from the Secretary of the Board of Education at the Harrison School Building, 104 Gray Street, West Caldwell, NJ, and must be filed with Christopher J. Durkin, Essex County Clerk on or before:
Petitions must be signed by at least ten (10) qualified voters.
QUALIFICATIONS TO BE A MEMBER OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION
1. Candidate must be a citizen, a resident of the Borough of Caldwell or the Township of West Caldwell for at least one year immediately preceding his/her appointment or the date of the election, shall be able to read and write, and shall be registered to vote in the District, and, notwithstanding the provisions of N.J.S. 2C:51-1, or any other law to the contrary, the candidate is not disqualified as a voter pursuant to R.S. 19:4-1. (N.J.S.A. 18A:12-1)
2. No member of any Board of Education shall be interested directly or indirectly in any contract with or claim against the Board, nor in the case of local and regional school districts, shall he hold office as mayor or as a member of the governing body of a municipality, nor, in the case of county special services school districts and county vocational school districts, shall he hold office as a member of the governing body of a county. (N.J.S.A. 18A:12-2)
3. Candidate must be eighteen (18) years of age to qualify for office.WITHDRAWAL OF CANDIDATES
Any candidate may withdraw as a candidate in a school election. A signed, written notice must be filed with Christopher Durkin, Essex County Clerk at the following address:The Hall of Records
