•     One of the most important goals of elementary school is to provide students with skills they need to be successful in middle school, high school, college, and the world of work.
Homework is critical to the development of academic skills.  Homework reinforces that work done in class with the teacher and provides an opportunity for the students to practice what they have learned.  In addition, teachers are able to assess the understanding of the students by checking the homework each day.  Homework also teaches students responsibility and helps them learn skills that they will need throughout their lives and is most effective when completed on time. Because of its importance to the learning process, it is expected that all homework will be submitted on the date it is due.  Homework that is submitted late will not be given the same credit as homework submitted on the due date.

     Homework Procedure

Homework is an integral part in student learning and is a valuable tool in helping students make the most of their experience in school. Homework helps reinforce what has been learned in class, prepares students for upcoming lessons, teaches responsibility, and helps students develop positive study habits.

The following is the procedure that will be followed regarding “homework consistency,” homework that is not collected for a numerical grade, but checked for completion and accuracy.  At the end of the marking period, all homework consistency grades will be averaged together and count as one homework grade towards their marking period grade.

    • If a student misses class but is present in school (i.e. band, lessons, etc.), the student is encouraged to learn responsibility by approaching the teacher to find out what they missed that day and having their class work and homework completed for the next class.
    • Students receive full credit per homework assignment when completed on time and clear effort has been put in, even if some answers are wrong or if they did not understand a few problems.  If an assignment is late, the assignment grade will have less weight than if it were completed on time.  Failure to hand in the missed work by marking period's end, will result in an incomplete.  At the end of the marking period, all homework consistency grades will be averaged together and count as one homework grade towards their marking period grade.
    • It is extremely important that students have their agenda books with them at all times.  Parents are asked to look at their child’s agenda book nightly to ensure their child is writing down their assignments and completing them on time.

With home and school working together, I know that each and every student can have his or her most successful year yet!
