Love kids ... Love Art ... Take your vitamins ... Be dramatic ... Be cheerful ... Forget about having nice nails ... Wear fun smocks ... Transcend paper cuts ... Wear comfortable shoes ... Greet your young artists at the door ... Smile a lot ... Never ever cry over spilled paint (Murphy's Law loves the Art room) ... Look at things from different angles ... Don't talk too much ... Get to the fun stuff ... Play with your Art supplies ... Encourage experimenting and stepping outside the box ... Wear fun colors ... Point out unique things to your kids ... Hang their work with pride ... Remind them that skies don't have to be blue ... and trees are not brown telephone poles with green puffy clouds on top ... Be honored when a young artist draws your portrait (even if it looks nothing like you) ... Show them your work ... Get excited about theirs ... Bring in strange things to draw and paint ... Talk about life and family and summer vacation ... Tell them about your old art teachers ... Accept that every single article of clothing you own will eventually have a paint stain ... Continue to wear them anyway ... Say "Wow!" a lot (kids love that word) ... Save strange objects knowing their potential to somehow make it into an Art project someday ... Pick other Art teachers' brains ... Look at Art books daily ... Get inspired by silly little things ... Show your students that mistakes can be fabulous and an Art teacher can fix just about anything ... Have fun every single day.
