Sixth Grade Jazz Band is the first extra-curricular "jazz band experience" that is offered in the Caldwell/West Caldwell Public Schools.  Students learn the "basics" of jazz interpretation and improvisation in a friendly, "low-key" environment.  Various styles such as "Swing", "Latin", and "Rock" are analyzed and played.  The students also spend time listening to recordings and learning a bit about Jazz History.  All Sixth Grade Jazz Band members will need to purchase a book entitled "Essential Elements for Jazz Ensemble" by Mike Steinell.  To learn more about "Essential Elements for Jazz Ensemble", click here . The group rehearses once a week on Friday mornings from 7:45AM-8:30AM.  Performances take place in March and also in the Spring at the all-district "Jazz Spectacular".

The Jazz Spectacular is a concert that includes all the Jazz Bands in the Caldwell/West Caldwell Public Schools and also often includes guest artists.  The concert is held in the JCHS Cafeteria which is converted into a "coffeehouse" complete with food and ambient lighting.

Any 6th Grader who plays an instrument and takes lessons is welcome to join the band!
