Caldwell-West Caldwell Public Schools Intervention and Referral Services
Intervention and Referral Services (I&RS) is a State-initiated effort to assist students who demonstrate behaviors that place them at-risk for school failure. Each district school is responsible for coordinating services to address the range of student learning, behavior, and health problems. To assist students who demonstrate at-risk behaviors, a multi-disciplinary team is established in each building, representing services such health, counseling, child study, teaching, and administrative. After identification of learning behavior or health difficulty of students, the school team collects information, and develops, and implements an action plan of intervention. Parents play an active role in the development and implementation of intervention and referral services action plans.Action plans are reviewed and assessed for effectiveness on a periodic basis. If the initial interventions are ineffective, then alternative strategies will be considered including referral for evaluation by the Child Study Team.
