Elementary Remote Learning Information and Resources:

  • March 26 update

    Dear CWC School Community,

As you may have already seen in the news, Governor Murphy has announced that the school closure will remain in effect, and Remote Learning will therefore continue, through at least April 17, 2020.

In yesterday's message about the cancelling of NJSLA state testing, I neglected to provide the attachment. Here it is: New Jersey Cancels Statewide Student Assessments.pdf

Many of you have reached out with positive messages about our staff and the great work they have been doing.  It is so heartening to read these words of support, and I know they are making a difference to our staff.

    Take care,

    James Heinegg

    March 19 update

    Dear CWC Families,

I hope all is well with you and your loved ones.  Just a few brief updates today:

    1. As a follow-up to an earlier message about additional connectivity options, below is some information about specific ways to get connectivity at low or no cost.

    2. While students are still encouraged to get fresh air and exercise, congregating on community playground equipment is not advised.  School district playgrounds are therefore closed until further notice.

Acquiring Broadband for Students at Home

Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai recently issued a release referencing the Keep Americans Connected Pledge.  Highlights are summarized below.

Major telecommunications providers are have agreed to the following for a period of at least 60 days:

    1. They will not terminate service to any residential or small business customers due to an inability to pay.
    2. They will waive late fees that any residential or small business customers incur because of their economic circumstances related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
    3. They will open their Wi-Fi hotspots to any American who needs them.

Over a dozen companies have signed the pledge, including Comcast and Altice USA.

    Comcast Customers

Comcast is offering free access to its network for 60 days.  Individual households can sign up online.  After the 60-day period ends, the cost will be $9.99/month. Additionally, Comcast has opened up all of its hotspots to anyone in need. Students may check to see if they are in the range of Xfinity WiFi hotspots by visiting www.xfinity.com/wifi.

    Altice Customers

For households with K-12 and/or college students who may be displaced due to school closures and who do not currently have home internet access, Altice is offering Altice Advantage Internet solution for free for 60 days to any new customer household within their footprint. Learn more.

     March 15 Update

    Dear CWC School Community,

I hope that you and your families are well.  Thank you very much for your continued understanding in this difficult time.

Below are a few reminders and updates regarding COVID - 2019.

    1. School Closing Reminder

Beginning tomorrow, Monday March 16, 2020, schools will be closed to students as we implement our Remote Learning Plan.  It is highly likely that the closure will extend further into the spring; more details will follow in the coming days.

    2. Resources on Remote Learning

Elementary. This page on our web site contains resources for Elementary families, including Related Arts (Physical Education, Art, Music, etc.), Seesaw guidance for parents, etc.  We will update as necessary throughout the Remote Learning period.

Middle School.  GCMS families should check this page on the web site for guidelines for our students in grades 6 - 8.

High School.  JCHS families should review this letter which outlines Remote Learning for our students in grades 9 - 12.

    3. General Resources

Remember to check the district web page for general resources about COVID - 2019.  The page is updated periodically with articles about how parents can help children deal with emotional aspects of our situation, information about social distancing, factual guidance about COVID - 2019, etc.

    4. Free/Reduced Lunch

Families eligible for Free/Reduced Lunch may pick up lunches at Harrison School between 11am and noon.

    5. Athletic teams

During Remote Learning, all athletic team activities--practices, scrimmages, meetings, etc.--are suspended.  While players are encouraged to stay in shape as best they can at this time, they should follow the practice of social distancing by not meeting in large groups or as an entire team.

    6. Questions/Concerns

Although the school buildings will be closed to students, do not hesitate to reach out via email with any questions or concerns that you may have.  We will do our best to support our students and families in every way possible.
