• Expectations for Classroom Behavior:

    Each student is expected to:

     

    • adhere to all GCMS school policies
    • treat everyone with respect
    • begin completing the Do Now or J.O.D. (Journal of the Day) as soon as he or she enters the classroom
    • sit in his or her assigned seat (unless otherwise instructed as part of the lesson or for instructional purposes)
    • refrain from deliberately disrupting a lesson
    • avoid attempting to prevent a classmate from learning
    • arrive to class prepared
    • ask questions
    • participate in the lesson
    • be patient and raise your hand
    • listen to your peers
    • Ask for and receive permission to leave the classroom AND take a pass!
      • Each student is expected to promptly return to class and to refrain from wandering the hall or going anywhere beyond his or her approved destination

     

    Phones:

    • Upon arriving to the classroom, each student must place his or her phone in the cell phone bin
      • A student may choose to leave his or her phone outside the classroom in his or her locker, but once he or she brings a phone into the classroom, he or she must place it in the bin.
      • Any student who chooses to ignore this policy will be assigned the following consequence:
      • Google Classroom
    • Each class has its own Google Classroom where class and homework assignments will be posted
    • Please be sure to join the correct Google Classroom (Your class code for your Google Classroom is on the board and is also listed on the Homework Sites page.)

     

    How do I find out about missed homework?

    • Homework will be posted on a weekly basis on the board and is subject to changes when necessary
    • Please pay attention to your Remind text messages for changes in assignments and due dates!
    • Homework will also be written on the board each day for you to record into your calendar

     

    Assignments

    • Assignments are to be completed and/or submitted based upon the assigned due date
    • In the chance you are absent, you will have until the next class to complete the assignment
    • There will be a 7 point deduction for each day an assignment is late (including day not seen during the week)

     

    What we will be doing this year:

    • Annotating text!
    • Reading, responding, and actively thinking!
    • Analyzing author’s tone in each work we read this year!
    • Building vocabulary!
    • Participating in book clubs with choice books!
    • Texts we will be reading: The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton and Monster by Walter Dean Myer!
    • Using TFIQAC properly in our writing to create meaningful structure and purpose!
    • Making connections between humans and our own lives and literature!
    • Navigating and using Google Classroom for our assignments!
    • Creating projects and participating in debates!

    PLEASE ALWAYS ASK FOR HELP IF YOU ARE CONFUSED/STRUGGLING AT ANY POINT IN TIME THIS YEAR!! I AM AVAILABLE TO MEET BEFORE SCHOOL OR AFTER SCHOOL!
