The Wilson School community is
committed to the total academic, affective and social development of
each of our children. With greater numbers of children from diverse
backgrounds, and various handicaps returning to their neighborhood
school, Wilson School children and teachers develop great appreciation
for the diverse abilities of others. Our teachers continue their
devotion to the teaching-learning process, while our parents diligently
strive to complement the school climate with enriching programs.
The nature of our student-teacher interactions is special. Wilson School teachers are sensitive to each child's needs. We are sensitive to the fact that our student population will continue to change. Standardized test scores and statistical analyses, while serving as evidence of our children's academic success, and our teachers' highest standards for student accomplishment, simply do not capture the essence of Wilson School. We are aware of the growing concerns that bear on young children, and we strive to establish classroom climates that address each child's immediate intellectual needs, while we maintain a willingness to have children explore previously uncharted territory. Wilson School teachers strive to address each child's academic growth in a caring, professional manner, by establishing a comfortable environment that promotes appropriate attempts at risk-taking. In an effort to supplement the district's commitment to improving the teaching-learning process, our teachers regularly attend professional seminars, which provide training in national educational trends. Our teachers then return to the building to engage in discussions with their peers about the potential influence of such trends on Wilson School classrooms. Supported by this knowledge, curricular decisions, which attempt to prepare our children for their future intellectual endeavors, are made by the professional staff. The strong relationships that exist between Wilson School and our parents strengthen our program. We recognize that our solid relationships with the parents of our children serve to strengthen each child's commitment to his/her own learning process. We also recognize that the Wilson School Home-School Association shares our concern for our children's growth. Families are constantly engaged in Wilson School activities, reassured of our philosophy that only with their input and support can we assure the intellectual and social successes of our youngsters. The Wilson School Home School Association maintains daily involvement in activities that help to create our fruitful environment. It is through a flourishing of these concepts and practices that we may continue to prepare our children for the decades to come. We rely on our past successes, with a willingness to accommodate change and to teach our children the skills necessary for calculated risk. While doing this, we have never lost sight of the fact that school should be fun. Every day is exciting, and thrilling, and new.
