What did the acorn say when it grew up? Gee, I'm a tree! (Geometry)
The fifth graders are now beginning their unit on Geometry to prepare for the NJASK5 testing in May.
This unit will cover polygons, lines and angles, circles, congruent and similar figures, symmetry, patterns, plane and solid figures, and transformations and tessellations. The students will also become more familiar with using a protractor for measuring angles, as well as a compass for measuring circles.
Although much of our learning will be through hands-on activities, each student will be required to bring their math textbook and workbook to class each day.
Occasionally, homework and quizzes will be given to assess the students' progression. These scores will be factored into each individual's math grade for the marking period.
As always, I am available for extra help most mornings and afternoons. Please have your child see me at least one day in advance to set up an appointment.
***For the students in Ms. Brock's class*** I will be available to any student in 5-B who misses our class time due to band. Please be sure to come to my class instead of recess each Tuesday to go over any material/homework.
Homework for the week of Nov. 17th Sort the capital letters of the alphabet into the following categories: 1. Letters with Right Angles 2. Letters with Parallel Lines 3. Letters with Intersecting Lines 4. Letters with Perpendicular Lines Hint: Not all letters will fall into these categories!
