2007 ANNUAL WASHINGTON SCHOOL BOOK FAIR

Many, many thanks to  Book Fair Co-chairs Regina Daly, Katie Kiernan, and

Karen Mazepa for their hard work in chairing this year's successful Book Fair.

Thanks, too, to the many parents who visited Book World to do some early Holiday Shopping as well as ordering through our in-school fair.

As you know, profits from this annual event go directly to help in the support of numerous programs for students, including the funding of established authors and illustrators to our school to inspire our young writers and readers.

Technology Update

One exciting new arrival at Washington School for the new school year is the addition of four new laptop carts, each containing 28 shiny new laptop computers.  Our students have already begun to use them in some of their classes, and a recent discussion between the principal and one fifth grade class revealed that the students felt very comfortable with them, enjoyed using the touch pad instead of an external mouse, and  felt confident that they could use them carefully and well.

Each of our teachers participated in a half day workshop, led by our Director of Instructional Services, Mr. Barry Bachenheimer, during which they explored many new applications this technology provides them with to enhance instruction.

Ms. Davison, Ms. Romola, Ms. Dowd and Mrs. Mullen concentrate on learning all about our new laptop computers.

Mrs. Lockard and her student teacher, Ms. Kohut,  working together, plan new ways to bring excitement to learning through technology.

The students are rally getting the hang of the new laptop computers, too!  here are some of our students using them to access a Math website to reinforce their understanding of estimation:

Having trouble finding a solution to the new guidelines for healthy birthday celebrations?

Here's one student's creative solution:

Faux Cupcakes......

YUP.....They're fake and they're fun!!!!!!!

(Congratulations to Joey's family for thinking outside of the (bakery) box!)

On Thursday, October 25th our kindergarteners, first graders and second graders  were treated to a vist from CAPTAIN SUPERTOOTH !!!

Provided by Delta Dental and arranged for by our own school nurse Ms. Dean, Captain Supertooth reminded our younger students of the importance of good dental care.  With Captain Supertooth the children discussed the optimum number of times per day to brush (three), how to brush ( in a circular, soft manner, including gums), and how to floss.

This exciting, fun program supports the ongoing health lessons these children receive in their classrooms.
