"What is a Hero?" |
The program entitled What is a hero? was implemented over the course of last school year through funding received from a CWCEA grant. 1st Sgt Slattery, Miss Golembeski's friend from high school, was deployed in Iraq for seven months with his Marine Corps Battery. The group left on Sunday, September 24, 2006 and was stationed north of the Euphrates River. During this time, students were exposed to related literature and correspond with him during this tour of duty. With great pleasure, Lincoln School students hosted 1st Sgt Slattery and gave him a "Hero's Welcome" during a special assembly in May. It was a memorable event for all in attendance. Students will again correspond with their new Marine Friend during the 2007-2008 school year as 1st Sgt Slattery is being redeployed in October.
1st Sgt Slattery shows off the flags colored by Lincoln School Students that he proudly displayed in his tent.
