Subject: Skin Infections

Dear JCHS Parents and Friends:

You may be aware of national news about various types of skin infections that have infested athletes and students across the country.  While we are relieved to report that we have no reported cases of MRSA, the most dangerous infections, we have had several JCHS students who have been diagnosed with impetigo, which is very contagious and can be contracted through staph or strep bacteria entering through a break in the skin.  Yellow and crusted, or blister-like sores, develop that do not seem to heal for an extended time.

Good hygiene and proper hand washing are the most important means of prevention.  Please encourage your children to wash their hands frequently, using plenty of soap and water.

We ask you to remind your children to WASH THER HANDS FREQUENTLY DURING THE COURSE OF THE DAY, especially if they are involved in athletics.  All athletic clothing should be brought home each day and washed.  AT NO TIME SHOULD STUDENTS SHARE CLOTHING.

The JCHS weight room has been disinfected and cleaned each day, as has the school’s and the field house’s locker rooms.  ANY CASE OF IMPETIGO OR SKIN RASHES SHOULD BE REPORTED IMMEDIATELY TO THE TRAINER AND/OR TO MRS. MORAN, OUR SCHOOL NURSE.  If you have any questions, please call the main office.  Thanks for joining us in our efforts to keep our students safe.

Sincerely,

Kevin Barnes

JCHS Principal
