Dear JCHS Parents:

 

                        I write to inform you that we will continue to offer an S.A.T. review course for James Caldwell High School students.  The courses are exclusively limited to James Caldwell High School students, at a cost of one-hundred dollars ($100.00) per session for the English S.A.T. (which meets ten times), and eighty dollars ($80.00 per session for the Math S.A.T. (which meets eight times).  The English course meets two additional times to prepare for the writing portion of the S.A.T.  We must have at least fifteen students register for a course for the course to run. 

 

 Students may register for either a English preparation course ($100.00), or the Mathematics preparation course ($80.00), or for both ($180.00) S.A.T. preparation courses.   These courses will not target PSAT test-taking strategies.  In addition to the registration fee, which is used to pay the teacher’s stipend, students must provide their own consumable S.A.T. preparation book, The Official SAT Study Guide, which is published by The College Board.  It can be purchased at Book World at 895 Bloomfield Avenue for $19.95 plus tax.  The book may also be purchased at most bookstores, as well as via the internet.  Students should bring this book the first day of class.

 

Mrs. Karen Browne will conduct the S.A.T. English/Language Arts preparation classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.  The sessions will begin on Tuesday, October 9^th, and continue on October 11, 16, 18, 23, 25, 30, November 1.  Many students will use these sessions to prepare for the December 1, 2007 administration of the S.A.T.  Mrs. Browne will discuss the additional two sessions with the students during the course of the class.  (They may decide to extend times; they may decide to add separate days to meet the ten session requirement.)

 

Mr. Steven Birnbaum will conduct the S.A.T. Mathematics preparation classes on Mondays and Wednesdays, from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM, on October 8, 10, 15, 17, 22, 24, 29, and November 5, 2007. 

 

            The students will meet in JCHS room 401.  Please complete the tear-off, found below, to indicate your child’s COMMITMENT to attending the selected S.A.T. preparation classes, and return the completed form to the main office by 3:00 PM on Friday October 5, 2007.  Each completed form must be accompanied by a check, made out to Caldwell-West Caldwell Continuing Education Program, one-hundred ($100) dollars for the English class and eighty ($80.00) for the Mathematics classes.  If you have any questions, please call the main office.
