Subject: Nutrition Letter to JCHS Parents October 3, 2007

Dear James Caldwell High school Parents/Guardians,

As you are aware, on September 17, 2007, the Caldwell-West Caldwell Board of Education approved policy “EFBA SCHOOL NUTRITION”.  This policy provides regulations for providing students with healthy and nutritional foods during the school day.

Recognizing that special “School Celebrations” are part of the school experience, the Caldwell-West Caldwell School District has designated six days where exemptions shall be made for this policy.  They include:

Other “School Celebrations” may be determined by the school principals at their discretion on a school-specific basis.  Parents will be notified of those holidays in advance.  Please note that all celebrations listed above may not apply to all levels Pre-K to 12.

Food and beverages served by teachers during these school celebrations or curriculum-related activities shall be exempt from this policy with the exception of Foods of Minimal Nutritional Value (FMNV) as defined by USDA regulations posted in each building.  New Jersey state law prohibits the serving of FMNV during school hours.

Regardless of the “School Celebrations” parents and students are highly encouraged to make healthy choices for foods selected.

Please feel free to contact me with further questions.

Sincerely,

Kevin M. Barnes, Ed.D.

JCHS Principal
