Subject: JCHS Parking and AM Drop-Off Procedures

Dear Parents of and Visitors to James Caldwell High School:

I write to inform you of recent changes in morning drop-off arrangements, and to explain why those changes have occurred.

I previously emailed information about the morning drop-off procedures to you.  Within days, I received emails from parents who questioned why their morning drop-off experiences did not reflect my email directions.  I now have an answer to their questions, and it’s appropriate for me to share this information with the community.

Please note the following new procedures:

The Westville entrance to JCHS has always been a two-way street, except during morning drop-off.  In the past, the two-way street became a one-way exit FROM JCHS when the crossing guard blocked the entrance with cones.  This usually happened around 7:45 AM.

Just recently, the West Caldwell Police Department assigned an officer to the Lane and Woodmere intersection to assist with the backlog of traffic that resulted because of the one-way flow that was created when the Westville entrance to school was blocked by the crossing guard.  The result is that Lane Avenue traffic has backed up as far as Bloomfield Avenue, and the Westville & Lane traffic light intersection has been blocked.  The crossing guard has been directed by the police department not to block off the entrance to JCHS at Westville to create a one-way exit.  The entrance must now remain a two-way street at all times, even during the morning drop-off times.

Now, if you approach the Westville entrance toward school, you will be able to enter at all times. It must remain a two-way street.  Please keep to your right on the way in toward JCHS and on your exit toward Westville Avenue.

Woodmere continues as a two-way, two-lane street at the top (public street).  It becomes a one-way, SINGLE LANE street once it becomes school property.  If you have any questions, please call the office.

Sincerely,

Kevin Barnes

JCHS Principal
