Steps for Creating a Bar Graph on Excel

 

1.        Open Microsoft Excel

 

2.       Look at your frequency table categories & frequencies.

 

3.       a)           In cell A1, type in your 1st category, in B1 enter

the frequency for that category.

b)                           In cell A2, type in your 2nd category, in B2

enter the frequency for that category.

c)                            Continue until you’ve entered all of your

categories and their frequencies.

 

4.       After you have entered all date, Highlight all cells that you have typed in.  Do not highlight unused cells.  Then go to the top tool bar and click on ‘insert’, then ‘chart…’, or click the bar graph icon (says Chart Wizard if the cursor is on it)

 

5.       Chart type ‘column’ should already be highlighted, that is the type of chart we are going to make.  Choose a bar chart.  Click on ‘Next’

 

6.       Now we have the Data Range and Series, Keep it the way it is… Just click ‘Next’.

 

7.       Enter your chart Title

-In the box Category (X) axis, type in the title for your x-axis.

-In the box Value (Y or Z) axis, type in  the title for your y-axis.  You would use “Value Z axis” box if you have a 3-D bar graph.

-Once you are done, click on ‘Next’

 

8.       Click on As New Sheet

 

9.           Click Finished

 

10.   Now, the fun part is customizing your bar graph to look all cool and pretty.  To change the background and bars, double click on whatever you want to change.  The box that comes up allows you to change colors, designs, and even import stuff from the internet.  Click “fill effects” for more options.  Explore.
