JCHS Freshmen Boys Basketball
The mission of the Freshmen basketball team is to become acquainted with the philosophy (offensive and defensive) of JCHS basketball, including learning the basic sets used on the Varsity and JV levels. In addition, there is an emphasis on playing at a faster game speed and basketball fundamentals and skills development.
Boys trying out for the Freshmen basketball team will primarily be assessed according to the following characteristics:
Strength, speed/quickness, athleticism, ball-handling, shooting, passing, hoops IQ, hustle, and coachability.
First Day of Practice: Monday after Thanksgiving, 3:15, GCMS gym
(Cuts made by Wednesday after Thanksgiving)

Motivation for improvement during the off-season includes individual self-improvement, as well as helping contribute to the future success of the high school basketball program.
Opportunities to work on your game include:
ü Practicing drills at game speed (home, park, gym)
ü Attending open gyms
ü Playing “pick-up” games with better competition
ü Attending basketball camps
ü Weight-training and Running (if possible, “speed-training”)
Good luck during the off-season, and looking forward to see you improve over the next few years of high school basketball!
