Science Activities & Assignments for the
First Week of School
Long Term Assignments:
- Review the Behavior Code and Discipline Plan with your parents. You should
sign it and have a parent sign it. Return it to school by Monday, 9/ 8.
- Cover your textbook, Cells & Heredity by Monday, 9/ 8. NO BOOK SOX!
- Learn the history of the microscope, how it works, and the search for
cells by reading pp. 16-22 in the Cells & Heredity textbook. Do
questions #1-4 on p. 22 for next Thursday, 9/11.
- Study the microscope worksheets (You値l get them in class.) for a quiz on
the microscope parts and important terms scheduled for next Friday, 9/ 12.
Wednesday, September 3rd
- Welcome to 7th grade life science! We値l talk about what you
can expect from science class this year: the course topics, requirements,
homework procedures, and more.
- You値l learn about the fire drill routines in Rooms 110 and 109.
- We値l talk about the school and class rules, your rights and your
responsibilities as a student, and what is acceptable behavior in a science
classroom and a lab.
- You値l get your first weekly assignment sheet, which will be explained.
You can also access weekly assignment sheets and other important information
on line at www.cwcboe.org.
Go to GCMS. Click on "Staff." Scroll to "Jane Kinkle."
- You値l get a textbook, Cells & Heredity, which should be covered by
Monday, 9/8.
- Homework: Due on Thursday, 9/113. Read pp. 16-22. Do questions #1-4 on p.
22.
Thursday, September 4th
- You値l participate in an activity called Inquiring Minds. This will be
followed by a slideshow about what you値l be learning in science class this
year.
- Homework: Complete the Thinking about Inquiry activity worksheet
for Friday, 9/7.
Friday, September 5th
- You値l examine an important tool of the biologist, the microscope. You値l
get a diagram of a light microscope to label.
- We値l discuss how lenses work, what a compound microscope is, and how to
calculate magnification.
- Homework: Due on Thursday, 9/11. Learn the history of the microscope, how
it works, and the search for cells by reading pp. 16-22 in the Cells &
Heredity textbook. Do questions #1-4 on p. 22.
