For this writing assignment you’ll begin with a five-sentence descriptive paragraph – a narrative of your microscopic exploration of a common object of your choosing.

The paragraph is worth 40 points of the project’s total 100. For full credit you must describe how the image of your object changed from the 4x hand lens magnification to the 100x medium power magnification. (You may be able to see a clear image at 400x. A 400x image is optional. For some objects it will be impossible to use 400x magnification.)

Directions:

• Open with a good interest-catching sentence. It should entice your reader to continue reading.
• Describe how the image of your object changed from low magnification to high magnification. Be specific. Discuss what you could and couldn’t see from low to high magnification.
• Conclude with a sentence that will leave your reader thinking.

Points are deducted as follows.

• - 5 for each missing sentence in the essay
• - 5 for failing to identify the specimen
• - 5 for descriptions that need clarification or descriptions that are vague
• - 5 for not providing clear descriptions
• - 2 for a sentence that doesn’t make sense or a sentence fragment
• - 1 for using "it" or "they" instead of a noun when necessary

No points are deducted for spelling or grammar mistakes. Your paragraph may be more than five sentences if you wish.
