WASHINGTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Mrs. Sheila Zeman

Mrs. Zeman has taught Health and Physical Education at Washington and Lincoln Schools  for the past 4 years.  She earned a bachelors degree in Physical Education with a minor Sports Medicine from East Stroudsburg University  and a masters in Physical Education with a minor in Exercise Science  from Montclair State University.

Mrs. Zeman worked as an Athletic Trainer for ten years (7 years at James Caldwell High School) and  was fortunate to travel with the Olympic women's handball team to Germany, Romania and Norway before making the move to teaching, one she is very glad she made!

Mrs. Zeman was an avid runner in high school and college, running the New York Marathon as well as the Midnight Sun Marathon in Alaska. Now she is an avid walker and finds that regular walking brings her great peace.

Mrs. Zeman strongly feels that fitness should be incorporated into everyone's life and enjoys sharing that belief with her students.  She hopes that as she teaches her students over the course of their elementary years, she can instill in them an understanding  that being healthy and fit does not need to be grueling, it can be found through finding an activity you enjoy and sticking with it!

Ms. Krystyn Perhach

Ms. Perhach has enjoyed art all of her life. During her elementary and high school years she was a member of the               Artistically Talented program in her school, and won several awards in high school for her ceramic sculptures. She also received an art scholarship to attend college.  She graduated from Stockton College in New Jersey in 2001 with a Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts.  During college Ms. Perhach worked at several museums and even as a  radio station disk jockey.

Ms. Perhach started her teaching career at Washington and Lincoln Schools when their art teacher left to have a baby.  From the very first day, she felt right at home.  She has been teaching art in our school district ever since, having taught at all four elementary schools as well as at Grover Cleveland Middle School over the past three years.  If you ask her, Ms. Perhach will gladly tell you how much she adores teaching art and all of her students!

Last summer Ms. Perhach attended a Creativity Workshop in Aix-En-Provence,  France to further her own education. She visited many artistic sites including the Louvre Museum, but her favorite place was Monet's garden!  While she was in France, her boyfriend, who had traveled from the USA to visit her, actually proposed marriage to her in front of a fountain...he even proposed in French!

Ms. Perhach is currently pursuing a Masters degree in Art Education at Montclair State University.  Each year she attends the annual Art Educators' Conference to keep learning new things to enhance her ability to teach her students.  In addition to counting her students as being of major importance in her life, she also treasures her time spent with her nephews Jason and Trent, as well as with her puppy Bailey.

Ms. Michele Maggiulli

Miss Maggiulli recently graduated from Montclair State University with a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education.  She is currently pursuing her Master’s Degree in Special Education.  Having a positive impact on each and every one of her student’s lives is her goal for her years of teaching at Washington School.

Miss Maggiulli first started at Washington School as a student observer, then as a student teacher in Mrs. Maisano’s Kindergarten classroom.  After graduating from college she was hired as a special education aide at Washington School, a job that she enjoyed for a year and a half.  In the past Miss Maggiulli has worked at a summer camp with children ages eight through thirteen and has also worked at a daycare center for two and a half years

She has an older brother Vinnie, two wonderful parents and is very close to her family.  In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, friends and her dog Misty

Miss Maggiulli is looking forward to being a part of the Washington School teaching staff.  She is very excited to start working with the incoming Kindergarten students.

Ms. Jessica Valentine

Ms. Jessica Valentine not only holds degrees in elementary education and special education from the College of Saint Elizabeth, but also received a Master's Degree in educational leadership for Saint Elizabeth's.  She is also a graduate of the Caldwell-West Caldwell School System.  She is in her seventh year of teaching, and is very experienced in the field of special education.

Ms. Valentine loves to travel, and when home enjoys spending time with her little Maltese dog, J.J.

Ms. Valentine is thrilled to bring her teaching expertise to the school district she herself attended, and looks forward to working with her special education colleagues as well as all of the teachers and parents of Washington School to ensure her students' success.
