Mrs. Barbara Adams
Principal

Mrs. Adams is in her seventh year at the helm of the Washington Elementary School.  Prior to becoming principal, she had served as an Assistant Principal in charge of the Middle School in Highland Park, NJ, Supervisor of the Summer Science/Adult School program in Caldwell-West Caldwell, Gifted and Talented Teacher, and as a 4th and 5th grade teacher for eleven years.

She truly enjoys the feeling of close knit community that infiltrates Washington School;  including having children  long before they are students, grandparents, their extended family, and even their pets visit and take part in events.

Her favorite administrative activities include listening to children read, helping students solve their interpersonal problems, and enjoying the delight of students  discovering how to use numbers effectively.  When she’s not in school, Mrs. Adams enjoys modern dance, gardening, cooking, and long walks with her dog.

Mrs. Adams has a B.A. in Elementary Education and English from William Patterson University and a M.A. in Educational Administration from William Patterson University.

A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome to Washington School!  You will find it to a be a large school, but a close knit one, embodying the spirit of a community school where all students, staff, and family work collaboratively to ensure student success, achievement, support, and fun!  All 400+ students spend their days actively involved in learning activities which focus on the New Jersey State Core Curriculum Standards as well as our own district curricula, while coming to understand that learning is an ongoing, lifelong, FUN activity.

Here, parents works closely with educators to ensure that our home and school partnership provides our children with all the ingredients for optimal growth. We concern ourselves with math and writing, reading and science, social studies and world languages, and also with health and nutrition, music and art,  physical fitness and responsible, caring behavior.

We are proud of our children , their families, our staff and our school community, and hope that our website communicates that fact!

                                                                                         Sincerely,

                                                                                                    Barbara M. Adams
