Dear Parents,

Believe it or not, September is right around the corner! On the first day of school, please send in the following items in a labeled bag with your child (if your child is also in a Kindergarten class, please make sure each bag is labeled clearly with your child’s name and the teacher’s/class’ name). If for any reason you are unable to obtain the items, please do not hesitate to contact me.

1.    4 Glue Sticks

2.    A hard pencil case

3.    24 pack of Crayons

4.    Four folders (1 red, 1 blue, 1 yellow, 1 green) – Thicker / Plastic folders       are preferred as they last much longer. Pockets should be at the bottom as opposed to the side of the folders.

5.    Pack of baby wipes / wet wipes

6.    Box of Tissues

7.    Smock (an old oversized t-shirt works best, please no plastic smocks)

8.    Full change of clothes in case of accidents or spills (including shirt, pants, underwear and socks – please label!) Please send this in regardless of how well your child is toilet trained.

If you are able to contribute more, we can always use extra: tissues, baby wipes / wet ones, and gallon size Ziploc bags.

Each day, your child should come to school with:

1.    Backpack: Please make sure backpack is large enough to easily fit child’s lunchbox and folders (it is important that your child is able to pack and zip their backpack with as little assistance as possible for increased independence). Please do not send in backpacks with wheels, as they are dangerous on the stairs and walking through crowded hallways.

2.    Communication and Homework Folders: Your child will receive two labeled folders on the first day of school – these folders will come home each night and should be returned each day. One will contain any important notices and a communication log. The other will contain homework and finished work. Please be sure to check these folders each night. Notices sent home and in need of signing should be returned to school as soon as possible. The communication log should remain in the folder at all times as it is kept on file at school once complete. Finished work should be kept at home and homework should be completed each night and sent back in the homework folder each day (Homework does not typically start until a few weeks into the school year, unless your child was in my class last year).

3.    Snack: Please pack a small, nutritious, nut free snack for your child. Snack time will only be 10 – 15 in length and large snacks may lead to frustration when your child is unable to finish. It is highly recommended that sugary snacks are not sent in as they typically lead to energy crashes later in the day and this makes it difficult for your child to focus and learn. We will have snack in the morning therefore students in AM kindergarten will have snack while there. Students in PM Kindergarten will need 2 snacks daily (one for our class, one for kindergarten).

4.    Lunch: For students coming out of Harrison school please remember children will be eating in the cafeteria this year. There will be no microwave or refrigerator available. An icepack for cold and heating food in the morning before putting it in a thermos for hot are great solutions. Hot lunch can also be purchased through the school, which is another great solution. In addition, napkins, spoons, forks, straws, cups, etc will need to be in your child’s lunchbox. These are not supplied by the school. Students only get about 20 minutes to sit down, unpack, eat and clean up so please keep this time restraint in mind when packing.

Thank you for all of your cooperation in getting this school year started off right! Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns – I will be checking my email intermittently throughout the rest of the summer, and daily once the school year begins.

I look forward to seeing you in September!
