Last day of School

Early dismissal 1:00 p.m.

Students in grades 1 to 5 are  to report to the playground at the rear of the building at 8:45 A.M.  There is no adult supervision of the playground before that time.  If you bring your child prior to 8:45 A.M., please remain with him/her until the bell rings.

School personnel assume no responsibility for students who arrive early.

Unfortunately,  due to space restrictions, the parking lot is reserved for staff members.  Driving through the parking lot to drop off students creates a hazardous situation.  Moreover, parking or standing your car directly in front of the building is prohibited.  If you wish to escort your child to school, please legally park on either Crane Street, Erwin Place, or Arlington Avenue and walk your child to the playground.  Please help to create and maintain a safe environment for all the children attending Lincoln School.

Teachers of grades 1 through 5 will meet their classes in the playground at 8:45

Mrs. Matrisciano will meet the Kindergarteners at the Front Door.

For the safety of all our children it is critically important that everyone obey the traffic rules and the instructions of the crossing guards. The Caldwell Police department has been most cooperative trying to assign an officer to the school during the morning “drop-off” time.  However, some parents or other caretakers seem to be in too much of a hurry to be cautious. Lieutenant Dombrowski has been informed of impatient parents who move into on-coming traffic to pass stopped vehicles and drop off their children.  This creates a situation which could result in a child being seriously hurt.  If the street is closed in the morning, all parents will be inconvenienced because of the actions of a few.

I believe we all know the basic safety precautions when picking-up or dropping-off students:

Obey the instructions of the crossing guard.  Because you are an adult does not mean that you can ignore his/her instructions; moreover, it sets a bad example for our children.

Drop off only at the curb side of the school. Double parking to drop-off is unsafe and illegal.

Under no circumstances should any child be crossing Crane Street except at the corners where there are crossing guards.

When you are dropping-off, pull your car down as far as possible in the “kiss-and-drop” zone in front of the school on Crane St. to allow cars behind you into the lane.

Pull out of the “kiss-and-drop” lane slowly and with great caution.

K-turns or backing into the school driveway to turn around is dangerous, as well as illegal, for everyone.

Driving through the parking lot to drop-off or reverse directions is not permitted and is a clear danger to small children.

Take time to be safe.  There is nowhere you need to be that is more important than the well being of our children.

Please call me if you have any questions regarding this matter.

Sincerely,

C.R. Williams
