Introduction:

 

       Your Head Hunters firm has been hired to prepare a recent Communications graduate for her interview with Devon Energy as a Public Relations Specialist. Each person in your group will be assigned a specialty in preparing the client for her presentation. Initially, each group member must use the links below to investigate which area holds the most interest for them. Once jobs are assigned you can move forward to the Task section.

The Task:

 

The interviewee has been informed that they will be asked to brief a fictional audience which includes the local and national media, as well as nearby residence who have health and personal property concerns which they would like addressed. This briefing is to be considered just an initial report to the public. The C.E.O.of Devon Energy expects a professional and positive "spin" put on this report, but he insists that the public not be lied to.

The Process:

To accomplish the task, each student will assume an individual position on the Head Hunters team. Use links provided in the Task section for initial position information and follow up your creation as a topical expert by reviewing the resource section of this web quest.

  1. First you'll be assigned to a team of 4 students...
  2. Once you've picked a role to play.... research the role
  3. Create appropriate documentation that you can provide our interviewee
  4. Find as much supportive material regarding the possible contamination of the area around the sight.
  5. Look for possible environmental effects as well as health related ones
  6. Research what the initial steps will be when the company begins their clean-up effort.
  7. Prepare your individual presentation to be orally presented to the Client ( Teacher) who will be your audience
  8. The client ( teacher) will award a contract to the Head Hunter team who best represents a professionally delivered " spin-control" press conference.
  9. Each student will be evaluated individually according to the rubric presented in the evaluation section
