Superintendent of Schools ... Dr. Daniel Gerardi Ph.D. New York University; M.A. Lehman College; B.A. New York University
A MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT 2007-08 School Year Our district website is a valuable communication tool for parents, community members, and guests to keep current with school district information and activities. We hope that you use it frequently and become an active participant in our schools. We believe that education is most effective when it exists in the context of home and community partnerships. A strong community and a strong school system work hand in hand for success. Below, please find the Board of Education approved district goals for 2007-08: 1. Complete the revision of the K-5 Language Arts curriculum, revise the K-12 science and music curriculum, and evaluate the World Language curriculum. 2. Plan for the creation of a new World Language offering at James Caldwell High School and Grover Cleveland Middle School.
3. Increase the percentage of general education students in the “Advanced Proficiency” category on the Language Arts section of the New Jersey Assessments.
4. Investigate options for shared services in special education with other school districts.
5. Complete the planning for a December, 2007 Bond Referendum to finance capital facility improvements.
6. Achieve a successor agreement with the Caldwell-West Caldwell Educational Secretaries Association and the Caldwell-West Caldwell Custodial/Maintenance Association through a collaborative partnership between the Board and the Associations.
On behalf of myself, my fellow administrators, and the Board of Education, I would like to send my best wishes for a successful school year to all. Daniel A. Gerardi, Superintendent

Director of Instructional Services ... Mr. Barry A. Bachenheimer M. Ed. Rutgers University; M.A. Montclair State University; B.A. State University of New York at Albany
In the 2007-08 school year, our curriculum and instructional program will again be evaluated to ensure alignment to state standards and best educational practices, specifically in the areas of science and world languages. Further, our technology program and accompanying resources have had unprecedented growth over the past four years and is dedicated to providing students with integrated skills and authentic tasks for the twenty first century. Our professional development program for staff promotes the concept of "life long learning" to provide educators with skills to help all students learn to obtain understanding. All of these divisions work in concert to encourage achievement, knowledge, and understanding for all in the Caldwell-West Caldwell Schools. I wish all of our staff, students, parents, and community members a fantastic, productive, and memorable 2007-08 school year! Barry A. Bachenheimer, Director of Instructional Services

Caldwell-West Caldwell Public Schools Mission Statement
"To prepare students for the world of 2010, the Caldwell-West Caldwell School District, in a collaborative partnership with family, community, and school, will provide the essential resources, opportunities, and experiences that will foster as well as challenge all students to achieve their greatest potential as lifetime self-directed learners and responsible, productive citizens."
The Caldwell-West Caldwell Public Schools is a K-12 school district dedicated to providing its students with a continuum of quality educational experiences directed at producing well-rounded citizens who are independent learners. Each of the district's six schools is currently involved in a five-year plan, begun during the 2004-05 school year, to evaluate, revise, and develop instructional strategies for all curriculum areas. Paramount to this project is the aligning of each specific curriculum, kindergarten through grade 12, with the approved New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards. The Standards describe what all students should know and be able to do upon completion of a thirteen-year public school education. The Standards define the results expected to ensure that all students achieve the expectations.
The Caldwell-West Caldwell Schools have utilized the New Jersey Standards as well as National Standards and standards published by recognized professional organizations as resources in answering the following "key questions":
· Is the current curriculum providing students with essential and timely knowledge, skills, and abilities that we want them to accomplish?
· Is the current curriculum aligned with the most recent New Jersey State Core Content Curriculum Standards?
· Is the current curriculum meeting the needs of diverse and differentiated learners?
The much anticipated 'VISION 2010" initiative was launched in 2001, with a representative Steering Committee of district parents, teachers, administrators, Board members, and community residents developing the future direction of our schools for the next generation of Caldwell-West Caldwell students.
The district continues to make investments in new technology that are continually implemented. During the school year, intensive staff development workshops are preparing teachers for the challenges of the new and expanded technology program.
A continuing strength of the Caldwell-West Caldwell School District is the continuity of instruction that enables James Caldwell High School to build upon the strong foundation developed at the elementary and middle schools. This constancy of purpose has allowed the district to consistently graduate students fully prepared for the next step in their adult lives.
