October 2007 -- Welcome Back

As the leaves and temperatures start to drop, the Caldwell-West Caldwell schools are really heating up! There are a flurry of activities, events and happenings occurring throughout the school district. School Notes is designed to give you a quick glimpse into all of our schools and share the diversity of activities and events occurring across our district. Welcome back and best wishes for a wonderful school year!

November 2007 -- Giving Thanks

Now that Halloween costumes have been put away, talk around the schools is turning to turkey as students, parents and teachers anticipate an early Thanksgiving in 2007.  However, the busy schedules continue throughout the school district bringing lots of learning, fun and a host of honors to our students. Happy Thanksgiving to all!

December2007 -- Winter Welcome

Snow is in the air and classrooms are abuzz with the hustle and bustle that typically comes with the year’s end.  With our final edition of School Notes for 2007, we want to wish all of our families, faculty and friends a healthy and happy New Year.  See you in 2008!

January/February 2008 -- Happy New Year

The New Year has arrived, bringing colder, shorter days. However, students and teachers are not letting a little cold weather slow them down, as classrooms are alive with the excitement of new programs, accomplishments and of course, Valentines. Enjoy the season!

March 2008 -- In Like a Lion

In like a lion, out like a lamb is the typical saying associated with March; however, the lamb may have to wait a while as our schools continue to roar with activity! Honors, activities and visits from a variety of special people continue to roll in. As we head into Spring and a day when each of us is a little Irish, a Happy St. Patrick’s Day to you all!

April 2008 -- Spring is in the Air

The days are turning warmer and the flowers are in bloom -- yes, spring has definitely sprung, brining with it a whirlwind of activities and accomplishments at each of our schools.

May 2008 -- School Notes May 2008

With the arrival of May, we invite you to join us as we celebrate the wide range of honors and activities within our schools.  We celebrate diversity through a variety of international activities; health and safety, as our elementary schools promote walking, biking and exercise; the diverse honors of students, teachers and administrators; and this upcoming Memorial Day, as we remember and honor those that serve our country.  Enjoy the warmer days and long weekends ahead!!

June 2008 -- Final School Notes June 2008

"Almost all of us have childhood dreams; for example, being an astronaut, or making movies or video games for a living. Sadly, most people don’t achieve theirs, and I think that’s a shame. I had several specific childhood dreams, and I’ve actually achieved most of them.”  Most everyone – young and old alike – now recognizes these words of Carnegie Mellon Professor Randy Pausch.  Pausch, who is dying from pancreatic cancer, gave his last lecture at the university Sept. 18, 2007. In his moving talk, "Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams," Pausch talked about his lessons learned and gave advice to students on how to achieve their own career and personal goals.  This now famous speech asks each of us to decide if we are a Tigger or an Eeyore.  He shares that brick walls are there to separate those that really want to achieve their childhood dreams from those that don’t, and to always find the good in everyone…if you wait long enough, the good will come out. So, whether you are a graduating senior, an 8th grader getting ready to move on to the high school, a Kindergartener excited to begin first grade or a parent, getting ready to cut the apron strings, I hope that as you move on to the summer months of fun, sun and planning for the next phase of education or life in general, you will all be Tiggers, knock down the walls, and never stop waiting for the good in everyone. For as Pausch believes, if you do these things, the dreams will come to you.  Have a wonderful summer – Congratulation to the Class of 2008!
